Why Our Work Matters

We, as ethical compassionate citizens, value our collective diversity today as we celebrate a vibrant and respectful future for all peoples together. Understanding and appreciating our Indigenous cultures is vital to recognizing the diverse fabric of our democracy and land that we all call home. Our work not only educates but also fosters a sense of respect and admiration for the contributions and experiences of Indigenous peoples past and present. By attending and participating, you also support cultural preservation and help promote awareness and inclusivity.

Past Activities

The last Indian Village featured outdoor Indigenous Music at the Bluemont Fair Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 16-17, 2023 in Stone's Field at foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountain.

The Indian Village’s collection of exhibits, demonstrated and hands-on activities to include: music; readings; Native arts and crafts; beadwork; pottery; coloring books; Indigenous maps; wild-color tie dye; rock, gems and crystals; ancient healing practices; leather goods; wooden flutes; food is medicine garden; Native American regalia; as well as community healing.

“Our feature was Indigenous music,” said Sanctuary on the Trail Co-Founder René Locklear White. “Our Native American Indian music embodies the soulful heartbeat of a timeless culture, weaving melodies and rhythms that echo the sacred connection between land, spirit and people.”

“Our music, past, present and future, lies in its ability to tell ancient stories, ignite a sense of belonging and honor the rich tapestry of Indigenous heritage, reminding us that every note has the power to heal, empower and preserve the beauty of cultural diversity.”

"We encouraged people to come breathe in the fresh mountain air, have fun learning new things that you didn’t know that you didn’t know about our Native American Indian music during Bluemont’s 53rd annual fair,” added René.
